Impressionism Brought to Life in Immersive Nelson-Atkins Experience

An expanded immersive experience that gives guests fresh insights into the light and color of Impressionist paintings debuts at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City on Friday, June 13. A Beautiful Disruption: Impressions of Light & Sound begins with a 15-minute multisensory experience in the Bloch Galleries of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art, followed by a 30-minute tour that includes discussion and close viewing of ground-breaking paintings.

“This unique presentation allows guests to explore the lives and struggles of the Impressionists through multiple lenses and points of view,” said Julián Zugazagoitia, Director & CEO of the Nelson-Atkins.

The museum tested a shorter experience in 2023 to overwhelmingly positive public reaction. A Beautiful Disruption: Impressions of Light & Sound transports guests to 19th-century France with evocative storytelling accompanied by a 3-dimensional light and sound experience that guides guests through the gallery. Following the immersive experience, a Museum Guide leads guests through a deeper exploration of work by artists such as Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, and Cezanne. The museum partnered with Art Processors, an award-winning creative technology company with an international reputation for enhancing visitor experiences, to create the multisensory stories in A Beautiful Disruption.

The 45-minute experience will be offered Fridays at 6 p.m. and Sundays at 10 a.m. The cost is $8 for museum members and $10 for the general public. Tickets can be secured on nelson-atkins.org.
